Northern Ballet brings the extraordinary story of Anne Lister, better known as Gentleman Jack, to the stage.
A bold Yorkshire woman often described as the first modern lesbian, Anne lived, dressed and loved as she chose, defying the expectations of 19th century society. Only after her death were her coded diaries deciphered, revealing a life of adventure, heartbreak and remarkable honesty.
Winner of the Fedora Van Cleef & Arpels Dance Prize 2025, this thrilling new production is choreographed by Annabelle Lopez Ochoa and performed to new live music by Peter Salem.
Gentleman Jack is a co-production by Northern Ballet and Finnish National Opera and Ballet.
